S. Dağhan Doğu graduated from Sergei Margulis’ double-bass class at Bilkent University Music Preparatory High school in 2004, which he was accepted earning High School’s scholarship. During his high school education he began working on composition with Füsun Köksal continued his graduate education in Köksal’s class at Bilkent University Faculty of Music Performing Arts.
His piece “Systole & Diastole”, which was commissioned by an Austrian brass quintet Sonus Brass, has been performed in Austria in three different concerts by Sonus Brass. His String Quartet “Mare Undarum” has been performed in Geneva, Lausanne two different radio programs on Radio Suisse Romande Espace 2 by Quartet La Mer based in Switzerland. His “Festival Overture” has been performed in Adana by Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra under Doğu’s baton.
Alongside with his composition studies Doğu continued playing the double-bass as Principal Double-Bass player in Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra as a guest player in Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. By succeeding in the auditions, he took place in Europe tours of World Youth Symphony Orchestra Greek Turkish Youth Orchestra in 2007-2007.
S. Dağhan Doğu began his conducting studies with Bujor Hoinic. At the age of nineteen he composed the incidental music for Shakespeare’s “A Mid-summers Dream” commissioned by Bilkent Theatre Department, conducted the orchestra during all plays of the season. Undertook the principal conductor post of Ankara Başkent Chamber Orchestra at the age of twenty-one. He graduated from Theory-Composition department at Bilkent University Faculty of Music Performing Arts in 2008. In the same year he was accepted to the Orchestral Operatic Conducting class of Mikhail Georgievich Kukushkin at Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory as an internship student finished the program with success.
After returning Turkey, he started his master studies in conducting with Prof. Gürer Aykal at Bilkent University. During his graduate studies he was appointed as the conductor of Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra Uludağ University Youth Symphony Orchestra simultaneously.
After successfully finishing the masters program Doğu started working as an instructor conductor at the Uludağ University State Conservatoire. During his tenure of conducting the Uludağ University Youth Symphony Orchestra he has conducted the symphonic repertory as well as the productions of J. Strauss Jr.’s “Die Fledermaus” P.I. Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”.
In 2012, Doğu became the only conducting student who has successfully passed all the auditions in order to enroll the Orchestral Conducting Masters program at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire that year. And he earned Conservatoire’s scholarship. During his graduate education in Birmingham, he participated in the production of G. Puccini’s “Il Trittico” as the second conductor. He wrote his graduate thesis on “Yunus Emre”, an Oratorio by A.A. Saygun, he completed the two year program in one year with highest marks. He won the “Birmingham Michael Beech Conducting Award” for his extraordinary accomplishments during his education. (2013) Doğu shared the first prize in “National Ferit Tüzün Conducting Competition” organized by Antalya State Symphony Orchestra (2012). He also won the “Annual Publication Artistic Activity Award” given by Uludağ University (2014)
S. Dağhan Doğu appointed as the Principal Conductor of Bursa Regional State Symphony Orchestra in 2017. He continues his duty at Uludağ University State Conservatoire, conducting state other orchestras nationwide as well as upholding his position at Bursa Regional State Symphony Orchestra.
